I joined a Ning network called Web 2.0 for beginners and hope I will get help or perhaps help other beginners with easy stuff.
I had heaps of fun with the Travel IQ quiz and emailed the S.S. teacher on our team to check it out.

Week 8, Thing # 19
I can spend hours on Google Earth and it makes me very nostalgic when I go to places I've lived before. It just hit me that I should use it to look at places I would like to travel to. Wish I had more time to play with it. I might try and work it into a lesson here and there to show students what the place looks like before we read a piece of literature.

Week 8, Thing #18
I embedded this in my language arts wiki for students to watch and get some practice with characterization.

Week 7, Thing # 17
I went to podseek and found a nice podcast called justvocabulary. I am going to add it to Reader and learn new words every day. My husband has been listening to podcasts on triathlons and I am quite familiar with it.
I like the idea of creating a school tour on Ipod for new students.

Week 7, Thing #16
I like the "Grammar rock" videos and am going to use the "preposition" one next week.
I have been disappointed in the past with UnitedStreaming's videos. It was so easy to embed the video. I think I'm also going to put it on my wiki that I use as a web page.

Week 6, Thing #15
It took a lot of time to put together a decent, short movie. I realized that individual clips should not be longer than 5 seconds and it was hard to decide what to leave in and what to cut.
This is what we came up with:

Week 6, Thing # 14
I created this voicethread for students to analyze a poem. I used my avatar to ask questions and give instuctions. Students will have to pause and do some analysis before going on to the next slide.

I really like the idea of students using this as a creative way of presenting a book report.

Week 5, Thing # 13
I can definitely see the potential for collaboration between team teachers or perhaps subject teachers.
The two other L.A. teacher and I are collaborating closely when we plan units. This might be a great way to do it.

Week 5, Thing # 12
I got quite a few great ideas to put on my own wiki. The one wiki I looked at had grammar videos from youtube that students could view and use for review or even instruction. I will use my wiki more as a webpage than a collaborative tool. Think I'll use Google Aps and Docs for collaboration.
Students may perhaps make their own wikis as a creative way of presenting a book report.

Week 4, Thing #10
This was very overwhelming. Way too much to look at. I don't think I will use this. I finally managed to look at people's comments and definitely see the value of it.

Week 3, Thing #9
I now have a twitter account, but yet again don't know where I will get the time to follow it. Every free minute I have at school I either plan or grade papers. When I get home I have to care for my 3 school going children. I just do not have time to sit in front of the computer reading what other people are thinking.

I commented on the story about Reading Rainbow going off the air. I watched it with my kids when I still stayed home. It wasn't really entertaining, but we still watched and enjoyed the stories told.

Week 3, Thing # 7
I added some feeds to Google Reader, but honestly don't know when I will have time to read it all.

Week Three, Thing # 7
I made an account on Bloglines, but couldn't add more than 2 feeds. Will try later on Google Reader
Week Two, Thing # 6
Yippee, I shared it from the glogster website!! I want to use this later when we read "Rikkitikkitavi".
Week Two, Thing #5
Wow! This was fun. I made an inspirational poster with one of the FD's Toys. I am going to print it and put it in my classroom. My room has no windows and this poster will give me a way to pretend that I have one looking out over a lake with the Grand Tetons in the back. Now I just have to get my husband to make me fake window frames.
I am definitely going to make use of the magazine cover maker. It will most probably be used in a creative book report assignment. I'm sure the kids will enjoy every minute of it.

Still Week, Thing # 4
I am going to blog about the Table Mountain picture even though I haven't been able to provide a link or download the image.
This is a picture of a cable car going up Table Mountain. It is called Table Mountain because of its shape and the frequent occurence of a thin cloud that covers it like a table cloth. I have been up the mountain twice in the cable car. The first time was when I was about 10, visiting my aunt who lived in Cape Town. It was almost a whole day's trip; waiting in line, going up to the top, climbing about on the rocks, enjoying the view of the land to the north, ocean to the west and south, and Robbin Island where political prisoners like Nelson Mandela were kept. I was always very skittish as a child and was very frightened that the cable would break and we will all meet a terrible fate. As far as I know there has never been any kind of accident going up the mountain by cable car. There, however, have been several accidents and injuries climbing the mountain and people are quit often rescued by helicopter from the mountain.
The second time I went up was with my husband just before we got married. I was of course not as scared and so in love that I don't remember much about the trip.
Table mountain must be one of the most photographed mountains in the world. The more familiar pictures are the ones taken from Blouberg Beach. The beach is usually in the forefront, the ocean further off and in the distance a majestic Table Mountain.

Week Two, Thing #4

I found this lovely picture of Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa. I don't know how to provide a link and therefore am just putting it in my blog.

Week 1, Thing #3, Discovery Exercises
I couldn't watch the video about Best Practices in Fair Use for Online Video“ . Will try again later.
Week 1, Thing #2 Email URL
Oops,
Haven't been very focused on this class since our first meeting. Will catch up quickly before the next one. I thought I did email the url, but obviously didn't.
I took the copyright quizz and did fairly well. Good to review every now and then.

Week One, Thing #1 Creating a Blog
I am starting yet another class on Web2.0 because I am such a slow learner!! Thank heavens I am getting another chance. This time I am going to remember everything. I have been keeping up with my family blog and am very proud of it.
It was really fun making the avatar. One day I will look like her...

that it's sometimes...
not so easy to put your picutre on the title bar. In fact, I gave up on that and just added it as a "gadget". I should remeber to use photoshop to resize pictures that are too big to put in the blog.
that blogging is easy...
I learned today how to blog. At first I thought I'll use it as a webpage instead of the Wiki I created yesterday, but then I decided that it will be more useful as an analyzing-of-literature- tool for my students. Hope I get around to it next year.
